
Blood donation camp dedicated to Thalassemia patients on the occasion of “World Red Cross Day”.
Nawanshahr - Thalassemia is a genetic disease. The red blood cells of the affected person do not produce enough hemoglobin due to which they need blood transfusion after two to three weeks. It is worth noting that the theme of the year 2024 at the global level is focused on thalassemia sufferers under which thalassemia sufferers irrespective of any economic status and any place they belong to should be ensured to receive accurate treatment and care in the present and future.

A Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organized on the occasion of “World Red Cross Day” at the local BDC under the leadership of District Red Cross Society. which became a blood donation camp dedicated to thalassemia patients. The camp was inaugurated by social worker Jyoti Baga. Honored those blood donors by wearing medals on their necks. A total of 45 blood donors voluntarily donated blood in the camp. The special feature of the camp was that blind Sandeep Sharma Hoshiarpur and father of Thalassemia girl Navneet Bij also voluntarily donated blood. On this occasion, President SK Sarin while addressing the thalassemia patients and their parents said that the thalassemia patients should be encouraged. This organization will continue to support them for their blood needs as before.
Dr. Ajay Baga said that the youth should undergo thalassemia tests before getting married, which helps in timely treatment. Secretary JS Gidda welcomed the voluntary blood donors from far and wide on the occasion of World Red Cross Day and appreciated them for their noble work. Blood donors were honored with special certificates. District Red Cross Harpal Singh Secretary, Sam Lal, Sukhchain Singh and Mandeep Singh attended. From BDC, SK Sarin, JS Gidda, Dr. Ajay Bagga, Dr. Dayal Saroop, Manager Manmeet Singh, Vasdev Pradesi, Jyoti Bagga, Shama Malhan, Surjit Kaur Dulku, Rajinder Chhokar, Raj Kumar and Roorki Khas, Pawan Samunda were present.
