On Monday, before the current budget session, MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa had demanded the renovation of the causeway bridge from Minister Harbhajan Singh through the Speaker. He said that the Dhakoli Derabassi road is very helpful for the travellers to travel between Panchkula and Shimla. This causeway bridge is in a dilapidated condition and can get washed away anytime during floods. Due to its closure, people will have to travel an additional 20 to 25 km.
He also linked the bridge to the jail visit of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. He said that this old Kalka road was used while taking him to the Shimla court for hearing. The renovation of the causeway bridge will not only provide convenience to thousands of travellers every day, but will also prove to be a real tribute to the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh. This will also benefit the population of 2.5 lakhs in the vicinity in road movement.
Minister Harbhajan Singh first told that the bridge which was damaged in July 2023 has been repaired from the SDRF fund. When Randhawa repeatedly stressed on the renovation of the bridge, the minister also gave him the gift of this.
He said that MLA sahab only wants the renovation of the causeway bridge, but he has approved a 150 meter long high-fi bridge instead of the causeway. Not only this, he has also approved a fund of Rs 12 crore for this. On this, Randhawa expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the minister, the Chief Minister and the Punjab government.
