
PGIMER Set to Celebrate 11th Annual Research Day on March 22, Showcasing Ground-breaking Medical Innovations

Prof. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER, shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming celebration, stating, “This event showcases PGIMER’s robust research ecosystem and reinforces our dedication to evidence-based healthcare and cutting-edge medical discoveries, focused on improving the healthcare of all Indians, especially the poor. Through this initiative, we aim to inspire young researchers, foster academic collaboration, and make meaningful contributions to global medical advancements.”
The 11th Annual Research Day will feature the esteemed presence of Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood , Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India and Chairperson of the Prime Minister's Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC), as the Chief Guest.
Prof. Sundar Swaminathan, Inaugural Chair, Department of Nephrology at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Highlighting PGIMER's impressive legacy in medical research, Prof. Lal stated, “Since its inception in 1962, PGIMER has been at the forefront of healthcare advancements, significantly influencing both national and international scientific landscapes by consistently pushing the boundaries of medical knowledge.”
The Director elaborated on the institute’s
achievements, reporting that from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, PGIMER undertook a remarkable total of 714 research projects, including 542 national, 31 international, and 141 intramural initiatives.
Furthermore, the institute secured external research grants amounting to ?92.64 crore from various funding agencies, which supported 573 projects in the financial year 2023-24. “This prolific output highlights our commitment to translating research into tangible benefits that enhance patient outcomes and shape global medical practices,” Prof. Lal emphasized.
Additionally, PGIMER garnered the esteemed Research Excellence Award in the overall best institution category at the DHR ICMR Health Research Excellence Summit 2024 held in New Delhi.
The upcoming Annual Research Day will serve as a distinguished platform for PGIMER’s faculty and researchers to showcase their most noteworthy published research from the past year (April 2023 - March 2024).
Almost 400 Faculty members from various medical, surgical, and basic sciences
departments will participate in poster discussions with the esteemed dignitaries. Another high point of the Research Day will be the presentations of about 50 outstanding innovative works by various faculty members.
The function will start at 9.30 am with a poster viewing followed by a one-and-a-half-hour program in the Bhargava Auditorium wherein the best research and innovations conducted during the year will be conferred prestigious awards by the esteemed Chief Guest, in the presence of the eminent Guest of Honour.
Prof. Vivek Lal aptly summed up stating “This Annual Research Day is not just a celebration; it is a hallmark event that emphasizes PGIMER’s dedication to research-driven healthcare and transformative medical breakthroughs.”
