
District level training program on solid waste management organized in Una

Representatives of all the Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats of the district, officers and sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporation participated in it.
The Municipal Corporation Commissioner said that the purpose of organizing the training program was to promote modern techniques of solid waste management, waste segregation, recycling and scientific disposal. In the training session, the experts also discussed the legal provisions of waste management, environmental impacts and the importance of behavior change. He said that under the Swachh Shahar Samriddh Shahar Abhiyan in the Municipal Corporation area, people are being continuously made aware about better disposal of dry and wet waste by going door-to-door so that the Municipal Corporation area can be made clean and beautiful.
On this occasion, the need for efficient management of solid waste in accordance with the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 was emphasized. The training programme was inaugurated by Resource Efficiency Advisor Vibhor Sood. He highlighted the objective and importance of the programme and expressed his views on the impact of climate change and the role of carbon markets.
Nodal Officer of Urban Development Department Shimla Akshay Tandon informed the citizens about the facilities of Citizen Seva Portal in which services like garbage ID, property tax, pet registration, municipal grievance redressal, community hall and ground booking are available online.
Behaviour change expert Ritiyaj Kashyap shared his views on effective information, education and communication as well as behaviour change strategies to encourage waste segregation and develop awareness and a sense of responsibility among citizens.
During the training programme, Anchal Khera provided important information related to solid waste management rules, its collection, transportation, handling, safety and hygiene. She highlighted various aspects of effective waste management, stressing on the importance of adopting clean and safe practices.
During the training programme, Nirbhay Kumar Singh provided detailed training on dry waste processing, organic waste management and effective operation of material recovery facility. He emphasized the importance of waste segregation, recycling process and maximum recovery of resources.
During the training program, an open forum was organized for knowledge assessment of the participants and to address their queries and participatory learning activities were also organized to explain the importance of segregation.
On this occasion, SDO of Municipal Corporation Una Rajinder Saini, EO Mehatpur Varsha Chaudhary, Municipal Council Mehatpur President Anju Bala, Municipal Council Amb President Indu Dhiman, Municipal Council Gagret President Anil Kumar, Municipal Council Tahliwal President Prakash Chand, all representatives of Municipal Council and Municipal Council, JEs and Secretaries from all Panchayats and Block Developments and others were present.
