Patiala, March 4- In its ongoing drive against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Dharampal, a resident of village Asmanpur, Pehowa, Haryana, red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh. Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the accused was arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of the same village.
The spokesperson further said that the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau alleging that he was being harassed and repeatedly summoned to the Patran police station due to a false complaint lodged against him by a person resident of Patran. The said accused Dharampal was mediating in the money transactions between the complainant and some police officials.
The complainant disclosed that through accused Dharampal he was forced to pay a bribe of Rs 2 lakh to the police officials. Similarly, another demand of Rs 4 lakh was made and later the deal was settled for Rs 3 lakh.
The spokesperson further informed that after preliminary investigation of the complaint, the team of Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and accused Dharampal was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 3 lakh from the complainant in presence of two government witnesses. In this regard, an FIR under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at Police Station Patiala Range of Vigilance Bureau and further investigation is underway.
He said that the involvement of concerned police personnel in this case would be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action would be taken against those found guilty.
