Hoshiarpur: Punjab Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh today said on the occasion of International Labour Day that the State Government is making continuous efforts for the all-round development of the workers and the Labour Department is providing the benefits of various schemes to the workers by establishing Punjab Labour Welfare Board.

During the function organized by Home for Homeless Society in honor of the workers in the nearby village Ajjowal, Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh said that Home for Homeless Society has set a new example in the field of welfare by providing houses to about 200 families so far.
Announcing to give the entire cost of building the houses to the society, he praised Chairman Varinder Singh Parihar and the entire team and said that in the present times, helping workers, laborers and the needy by such organizations is a big effort of social service. He said that the Punjab Government is committed to provide all possible help to such organizations. Regarding the welfare schemes being run by the Labour Department, Dr. Ravjot Singh said that the workers will be able to avail the benefits of Scholarship Scheme, Shagun Scheme, Ex Gratia Scheme, Loan Scheme, LTC Scheme, Maternity Welfare Scheme and Treatment Scheme for children.
He said that the construction workers registered through the Labour Department, which include masons, kiln workers, carpenters, plumbers, welders, POP construction workers, electricians, painters, road construction workers etc., can avail the benefits of these schemes. He said that the Punjab Government is also providing financial assistance to the talented children of construction workers, which they should avail.
He said that for information about these schemes, one can visit the Labour Department website www.pblabour.gov or call the helpline number 1100. The Cabinet Minister invited the workers belonging to the district to get registered in the Labour Department office and said that at present more than 11750 workers are registered in Hoshiarpur district, who are taking advantage of government schemes from time to time.
Society President Varinder Singh Parihar thanked the Cabinet Minister for the announcement of building houses and said that NRIs Amritpal Singh California and Amrik Singh Sihra New York have also started building one house each on the occasion of International Labour Day. The Cabinet Minister presented medals to the workers of Home for Homeless Society including retired General Jasvir Singh Dhillon of Indian Army, Sikh Preacher Sarabjit Singh Dhundha, Sarpanch Rachna Sharma.
Bahadur Singh Sannet, Babbu Sandhu, Lovely Pehelwan, Gursharan Thakur, Japinder Pal, Gurpreet Singh, Joginder Kaur, Geeta Rani, cyclist Balraj Chauhan, Bibi Mahinder Kaur Rahimpur, Sarwan Das Dholanwal and Amarjit Singh etc were also present on the occasion.
