Hoshiarpur- Max Hospital has launched a campaign to create awareness about the emergency services required for heart diseases and neuro cases during the winter season. Dr Ishtiaq Masood, Consultant, HOD Interventional Cardiology, said that cold weather contributes to the tightening of blood vessels and increases the risk of heart diseases and strokes.
"Effective management of heart conditions involves a combination of lifestyle changes, medications and non-invasive treatments. Some simple lifestyle changes include eating a healthy balanced diet, being physically active, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking and controlling blood cholesterol and sugar levels." Dr Masood added that heart failure or heart disease reflects the fact that your heart is not as healthy as it should be.
"It is important to recognize the early symptoms of heart attack and stroke, as early detection can lead to timely treatment and better outcomes. Stroke symptoms include loss of balance, blurred or loss of vision, drooping of the face, weakness in the arm, difficulty speaking and loss of time. Similarly, heart symptoms such as heaviness in the chest, restlessness or difficulty breathing should not be ignored.
Dr Masood said that getting treatment within the first 4.5 hours of a stroke ensures the best chance of recovery. Dr Pallav Jain, Consultant Neurology, said, “The golden hours – the first four hours – are very important in stroke. Patients who receive medical intervention during this time have a much higher chance of survival and can avoid long-term brain damage if they reach the hospital immediately.
