Major efforts needed to make Punjabi language fit for the digital age: Zafar

Patiala, December 9: The Language Department Punjab organized a one-day workshop on ‘Computer Requirements of Punjabi Language’. Earlier, the department had also organized a workshop on ‘Punjabi Computerization and Machine Intelligence’. During today’s workshop, eminent computer expert and long-time activist for computerization of Punjabi language Dr. C.P. Kamboj shared practical information on various technical points.

Patiala, December 9: The Language Department Punjab organized a one-day workshop on ‘Computer Requirements of Punjabi Language’. Earlier, the department had also organized a workshop on ‘Punjabi Computerization and Machine Intelligence’. During today’s workshop, eminent computer expert and long-time activist for computerization of Punjabi language Dr. C.P. Kamboj shared practical information on various technical points. 
His team included Surinder Singh and Maninder Singh. Students of various institutions pursuing computer education, professors, writers, officers/employees of the Language Department and representatives of other institutions striving for the promotion of Punjabi language also participated in this workshop. Director of the department Jaswant Singh Zafar said that great efforts are needed to make Punjabi language fit for the current digital age. Under this, the Language Department has started efforts to establish Punjabi language in machine intelligence, the purpose of which is to make other people aware and connect them with this mission. 
He appealed to the Punjabi well-wishers to work together for machine intelligence, the great need of the present era, like fighting soldiers. Dr. C. P. Kamboj shared valuable information in the form of practice with the help of projector during the four-session workshop on the use of computers and phones for the promotion of Punjabi language, the correct and proper use of Punjabi fonts and language-related software, and the digitalization of Punjabi literature and other language-related materials during different sessions. Meanwhile, Shinderpal Singh Mahal said that the initiative of the Language Department is very appropriate and necessary as per the demand of the time. Mahendra Singh Sekhon said that Such quality workshops should be organized in every district. He appealed to the organizations striving for the development of Punjabi language to take steps to organize such workshops with the support of the Language Department.
