
Review of compliance of food safety standards in sweets and bakery goods by the Deputy Commissioner during the festive season

SAS Nagar, October 28, 2024: To monitor adulteration of sweets during the festive season and ensure compliance of standards laid down by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India in the manufacture of sweets/bakery goods, Deputy Commissioner Ms. Ashika Jain today Reviewed the progress of Food Safety Wing at his office.
Deputy Commissioner Jain directed Civil Surgeon Dr. Renu Singh and District Health Officer Dr. Amrit Waring to ensure purity of sweets/bakery goods in the market by keeping a check on any kind of adulteration or fake or synthetic products.
The Civil Surgeon and District Health Officer apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the recent campaign against food adulteration and said that officials of the Health Department and Food and Drug Administration are already in the field to strictly prevent adulteration during the festive season. are working
The Deputy Commissioner asked them to ensure the quality of sweets and bakery products as per the norms and conditions prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Act such as manufacturing date, expiry date, ingredients used etc.
He said that the use of food colors and silver foil (silver work) should be carefully checked so that artificial colors or synthetic items are not used in food and drink items.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the confectionery and bakery manufacturers and said that there should be no compromise on the quality of food products and the packaging should contain adequate information so that these packages do not contain any misleading or false information.
They said that as per Food Safety Standards Authority of India norms, the manufacturer should ensure proper hygiene in workshops/kitchens and hygiene of food preparation workers.
He also appealed to the people to check all the details about the product on the package box before buying sweets/bakery items to ensure a safe and healthy festival.
Dr. Amrit Waring assured the Deputy Commissioner during the meeting that he has assumed the position as the District Health Officer today and he will not allow any kind of tampering with the health of the people in the district.
Meanwhile, the Food Safety Team under the leadership of District Health Officer Dr. Amrit Waring checked the workshops/kitchens of many sweets manufacturers to check the cleanliness of them besides cautioning them against fake/synthetic Khoa and Paneer. He said that the aim of this campaign is to create awareness among people about the purity of food and drink products and to monitor the manufacturing to meet all the standards set by FSSAI. During this period, challans were also issued to many people.
