The farmers of Tehsil Garhshankar, under the leadership of State Vice President of Kirti Kisan Union, Harmesh Dhesi, sent a demand letter to the Chief Minister Punjab through SDM Garshangarh Shankar Kar.
Giving information in this regard, Kirti Kisan Union leaders Kulwinder Chahal, Prof. Kulwant Singh Golewal, Ramjit Singh Sarpanch Deenwal Clan said that the area under Basmati cultivation in Punjab is continuously increasing. Basmati is a low water consuming crop and is also a foreign exchange earning crop for the country But there is no arrangement for buying it on the minimum support price. We demand that arrangements should be made for the purchase of basmati varieties 1121 and 1885 etc. at Rs. 6000 and 1509 and 1662 etc. at Rs. 5000 per quintal. An estimated five lakh metric tonnes of DAP fertilizer is required for the sowing of Rabi season crops in Punjab, which should be provided at the price of sugarcane at 450 per quintal. Sugar mills have been commissioned from November 1, due to the issue of lifting in cellars and warehouses not being resolved, there is a possibility of possible disturbance in farmers' markets. Therefore, we demand that the issue of lifting should be resolved immediately and appropriate arrangements should be made for uninterrupted procurement of the paddy crop of the farmers. The accepted demand regarding the ban on new membership and opening of new accounts in cooperative societies should be implemented. If the government does not resolve these demands on a priority basis, then the organization will take the path of forced struggle. Farmer leaders like Sodhi Singh, Jaspal Singh Jassa Roorkee Khas and Parminder Singh Golewal were present.
