New Delhi, July 5 - A Delhi court has declared UK-based arms consultant Sanjay Bhandari a fugitive economic offender on a petition by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The court's declaration of him as a fugitive will enable the ED to seize his properties worth crores of rupees.
District Judge (Tis Hazari) Sanjeev Agarwal issued the orders in this regard. The order comes as a major relief to the federal probe agency as it will now be able to seize properties worth crores of rupees of Bhandari, whose chances of coming to India have almost ended after a UK court recently ruled against his extradition.
Bhandari's legal team opposed the ED's move to declare him a fugitive offender, claiming that his client's stay in the UK cannot be called illegal as he has a legal right to stay in the UK.
