
Una runs a public awareness campaign on HIV-AIDS
Una, August 22 - A 5 km 'Red Run' marathon was organized on Thursday, August 22 in Una district with the aim of increasing awareness among students about HIV-AIDS. Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal flagged off the race in this event organized by the joint efforts of the District Administration, Health Department and District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit. The marathon started from Rampur at 8 am and concluded at Rampur via Sombhadra Bridge and Samanal.

Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal flagged off the race in this event organized by the joint efforts of the District Administration, Health Department and District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit. The marathon started from Rampur at 8 am and concluded at Rampur via Sombhadra Bridge and Samanal.
46 students in the age group of 17 to 25 from 8 educational institutions of the district running 'Red Ribbon Clubs' participated in the marathon. These included 24 boys and 22 girls.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the objective of this marathon was to spread awareness about HIV in the society and to inspire the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Apart from this, awareness was also created to avoid drug addiction and other risky behaviors. This type of addiction can put the youth at risk of getting infected with HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The youth were made aware to avoid them and focus on fitness. He said that the Health Department has launched a campaign to spread awareness about HIV among the people, which will run till October 12, in which people are being made aware through rallies and street plays.

The institutions participating in the marathon included Government College Bangana, Government Degree College Una, SBDM Government College Bitan, Government Degree College Amb, DAV College Daulatpur Chowk, Government Degree College Haroli, Government Degree College Chowki Maniyar and Government Degree College Khadd.
The Deputy Commissioner honoured the winners by giving them mementoes
Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal honored the participants who secured first, second, third, fourth and fifth positions in the Red Run Marathon by giving them mementos. In the men's category of the marathon, Abhishek from Government Degree College Amb secured first position, Mohit Kumar from Government Degree College Una secured second position, Arun Pathania secured third position, Chandan Singh secured fourth position and Shyam Thakur from Government Degree College Daulatpur Chowk secured fifth position. Apart from this, in the women's category, Jyoti Wala from Government Degree College Amb secured first position, Raveena secured second position, Swati secured third position, Maihak from Government Degree College Amb secured fourth position and Swati from ABV Government Degree College Bangana secured fifth position.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that the participants securing first, second and third positions in the men and women category will be given cash prizes of Rs 2500, Rs 2000 and Rs 1500 respectively and four consolation prizes of Rs 700 each. These cash prizes will be given to the winners when they participate in the state level marathon to be held in the first week of September.
