New Delhi, June 27 - Post offices across the country will start accepting digital payments at counters from next August. This will be possible after the full implementation of a new application in their IT system.
Till now, post offices were unable to accept digital payments as their accounts were not linked to the UPI system. The official said that the postal department is implementing its IT infrastructure, which will have new applications that will enable transactions with Dynamic QR Code. This rollout will be completed in all post offices by August 2025.
The new system, called IT 2.0, has been launched in Karnataka circle. Booking of QR-based mail products was successfully done in offices under Mysore and Bagalkot head offices.
Earlier, the Department of Posts had introduced static QR codes at the point of sale counters of post offices to enable digital transactions. However, this approach had to be discontinued due to persistent technical difficulties and customer complaints.
