SAS Nagar, September 10:- Mohali Municipal Corporation Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu has said that safety of life and property of people is the top priority and no compromise can be made on it. Launching a special survey campaign to identify dry and dangerous trees in the city, he said that the Municipal Corporation is constantly receiving complaints from different areas of the city that many trees have dried up or become crooked, which can cause a major accident at any time.
Starting this campaign from local phase four, Mayor Jeeti Sidhu said that the work of uprooting dry trees will be started from today. He said that wherever there are green trees (which have become infected or have become dangerous) a committee will be formed to get them uprooted, in which the councilors of the Municipal Corporation as well as the Environment Protection Committees, Resident Welfare Associations and Forest Department officials will also be included. This committee will not only identify the dry trees but also those which have become infected or which may become dangerous.
He said that in the last few days, huge and green trees had fallen spontaneously in many areas of the city, which affected traffic on main roads. These trees are now becoming a big threat to the city, so immediate action is very important. He said that the Municipal Corporation will remove the dangerous trees with full approval and plant new trees in their place.
The Mayor said that the Municipal Corporation had earlier also passed a resolution to reduce the height of trees which had become 60 to 70 feet high, but the NGT did not approve it. The action in this matter is still ongoing and further steps will be taken as per the government's orders.
