
Vet Varsity Empowers Bihar Farmers with Scientific Pig Farming Training
Ludhiana, 08 September, 2025- Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University , Ludhiana organized a five-day training programme on “Pig Farming: Skills, Science and Sustainability” . The course was designed for budding pig farmers of Bihar. A total of 18 participants, including 16 farmers and 2 faculty members, benefitted from the programme.

The course was designed for budding pig farmers of Bihar. A total of 18 participants, including 16 farmers and 2 faculty members, benefitted from the programme.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor, lauded the initiative and remarked that such training programmes serve as a vital conduit to strengthen farmers’ linkages, foster inter-state collaboration, and facilitate the adoption of region-specific best practices. He emphasized that these endeavours not only reinforce the university’s pivotal role in capacity building but also act as a catalyst for entrepreneurship promotion and sustainable livestock development.
Dr. R.S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education, remarked that the programme provided participants with hands-on exposure to scientific pig farming and motivated them to adopt modern technologies for improving productivity and profitability.
The concluding ceremony was graced by Dr. Parminder Singh, Additional Director of Extension Education, who shared his perspective and offered constructive guidance to the trainees.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh, HoD and Course Director, highlighted that pig farming holds tremendous scope in India, as the global demand for pork remains significantly high. He emphasized that this sector offers vast opportunities for income generation, market expansion and entrepreneurship development. The training was designed to equip farmers with both scientific skills and sustainable practices, enabling them to improve productivity while ensuring animal welfare. The course was coordinated by Dr. Ravdeep Singh and Dr. Arunbeer Singh. A visit to the farm of a progressive pig farmer was arranged to give the trainee hands-on experience.
Pig Farmers Welfare Association (PFWA), Punjab supported this training. Shri Harvinder Singh, President of PFWA, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to farmer capacity building and entrepreneurship.
The trainees conveyed heartfelt thanks to Vet Varsity and PFWA for imparting training to Bihar Animal Sciences University related farmers.
