Nawanshahr- A meeting of the Old Pension Restoration Struggle Committee Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar was held at the local Baradari Park. Addressing the meeting, Gurdial Mann District Convener said that on the call of the National Movement for Old Pension Scheme, on September 5, on the occasion of Teachers' Day, the Old Pension Restoration Struggle Committee Punjab and the CPF Employees Union will jointly go on a one-day hunger strike at the district headquarters and demand old pension.
Under this series, the teachers and employees of the district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar will sit on a hunger strike from 10 am to 5 pm in front of the DC office, Chandigarh Road, Nawanshahr and if our demand is ignored, then a march to Delhi will be held on November 25.
Mr. Mann said that the central and state governments make empty claims of respecting teachers on Teachers' Day, but the respect of teachers lies in social security, which both the state and central governments refuse to provide. While the state government has forgotten to implement the notification of restoration of old pension issued three years ago and has turned its back on the promise and guarantee of restoration of old pension made during the elections, on the other hand, the central Modi government is serving the corporate by imposing UPS on the employees and serving their deposited capital as pension.
According to the latest data released by PFRDA, out of 30 lakh employees of the center, only 90 thousand have chosen UPS. In other words, only 3% of the employees have chosen it, while 97% have rejected it. Which proves that this pension system is also not an alternative to OPS.
District leaders Jujhar Sanhugra, Gurdeep Singh, Naranjanjyot Chandpuri, Satnam Singh and Raman Kumar said that on Teachers' Day, teachers and employees under the new pension scheme across the country will sit on a hunger strike and give a clear message to the state and central government that social security is not possible without the old pension, which is the scourge of old age. Therefore, the proper respect of the employee will be with the restoration of the old pension, and not by celebrating Teachers' Day, the governments of the time are only providing food.
All NPS employees of Punjab will participate in this strike and on November 25, the employees will march to Delhi. Ramesh Chand, Pinki Devi, Surinder Kaur, Jaswinder Kaur, Sukhjinder Simbli, Nirmal Kumar and Sumit Chhabra etc. were also present on this occasion.
