
Vet Varsity observes 'Anti-Ragging Week'
Ludhiana 22 August 2025- Directorate of Students’ Welfare of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana observed an 'Anti-Ragging Week'. On the concluding day a session on Anti-Ragging Law was organized. Dr. Aman Amrit Cheema, Professor-of-Laws Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana was the resource person. It was attended by students and faculty members of Anti Ragging Committees and Anti Ragging Squad.
Ludhiana 22 August 2025- Directorate of Students’ Welfare of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana observed an 'Anti-Ragging Week'. On the concluding day a session on Anti-Ragging Law was organized. Dr. Aman Amrit Cheema, Professor-of-Laws Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana was the resource person. It was attended by students and faculty members of Anti Ragging Committees and Anti Ragging Squad.
Dr. Cheema said that Anti-ragging warnings should be prominently displayed in the institution's prospectus, website and all the buildings and hostels. She sensitized the students about the ill-effects of ragging and the penalties involved. She informed students about the stringent laws against ragging and shared a telephone number of the National Anti-Ragging Helpline.
Commenting on the event Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor said that keeping the university ragging free is our priority. He said that the university is an extended family of teachers and students, hence it is our responsibility to maintain the physical and mental health of the students by providing them with a healthy and fearless environment.
During this week-long event Poster Making Competition was held on Anti-Ragging theme. Eklovya from College of Animal Biotechnology bagged first prize, second to Disha Mahanta from College of Fisheries, third prize to Loni Baruah from College of Fisheries and Consolation prize to Shivani from College of Dairy and Food Science Technology, Ludhiana.
An awareness rally with posters and leaflets was also held. Students were asked to spread awareness on their social media platforms by using the hashtag #YaARI Youth Against Ragging, the university, UGC and C4Y.
Dr. S.P.S. Ghuman, Director Students’ Welfare informed that students can report ragging incidents to the University Anti-Ragging Committees as well as Anti-Ragging Squads. He added anonymous complaints can also be filed through drop boxes located across the campus.
Dr. Kuldip Gupta, Chairman of Anti-Ragging Squad at university level addressed the students to fearlessly approach the designated members of the committees/Squad or Advisors whose contact numbers are displayed all over campus before writing directly to the higher authorities. Different wardens of hostels, NSS Programme Officers and Anti Ragging Committee members also attended the session.
