Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, July 10, 2025: Mohali Police has busted an illegal call centre, during which 06 people have been arrested. According to Superintendent of Police (PBI) Deepika Singh This illegal call centre was being run by a person named Rohit Mehra in Industrial Area, Phase 8-B, Mohali. This centre was started about 8 to 10 days ago, but in such a short period of time, this gang had cheated around $20,000 (approximately Rs. 16 lakh).
He said that on the instructions of SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, the police took immediate action against such elements and conducted a raid on the spot, during which 06 accused were arrested along with 06 laptops and 03 mobile phones. These accused used to trap foreign nationals in their trap through Google Ads and through false messages or pop-ups they used to tell that there was a technical fault in their computer or laptop.
 Then they were asked to call on their numbers, the people trapped in the trap of fraud were asked to buy Apple or Walmart gift cards in the name of anti-virus or system update, by taking the codes of which they were cheated. The mastermind of this call center is a person named Alex, who is currently out of the custody of the police. The police say that he will be arrested soon.
In this regard, case no. 193 Date: 09/07/2025 Sections:-318(4), 61(2) BNS. Police Station Phase 1, SAS Nagar has been registered.
The arrested accused include Rohit Mehra son of Subhash Kumar - Bhag Kalan, Ludhiana, Anwar Rodrigues son of Wilfred - Goa, currently resident of Zirakpur, Somdev son of Dobasis- Kolkata, currently resident of Zirakpur, Buddha Bhushan Kamle son of Sahib - Pune, currently resident of Zirakpur, Ethni Gomes son of Resmi - Kolkata, currently resident of Zirakpur and Jitesh Kumar son of Davinder - Ludhiana.
He further informed that the investigation of the recovered 06 laptops, 03 mobile phones and other digital evidence is ongoing.
According to the SP, Mohali Police has proved by exposing this big fraud that strict action will be taken against cyber criminals. Investigation of their bank transactions and data is ongoing and more victims are being identified.
DSP City-1, Prithvi Singh Randhawa and DSP (Cyber Crime and Forensic) Smt. Rupinder Deep Kaur Sohi were also present on the occasion.
