Chandigarh- The Supreme Court today rejected the petition challenging the defamation case of MP and actress Kangana Ranaut, which is a big blow to MP Kangana. Kangana Ranaut had filed a petition in the Supreme Court yesterday, seeking quashing of the criminal complaint filed in the Bathinda court.
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta of the Supreme Court said that Kangana did not just retweet but also found an issue in it. The bench has refused to consider the petition.
With the rejection of Kangana Ranaut's petition, the way has been paved for the hearing of the defamation case against Kangana Ranaut in the court of the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) of Bathinda. Kangana Ranaut is now left with no last resort. Earlier, Kangana Ranaut's petition was rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on August 1. After that, Kangana approached the Supreme Court.
Now the Bathinda court will hear the matter next. It may be recalled that when the farmers' movement was going on against the central government in the year 2020 regarding three agricultural laws, then old mother Mahinder Kaur of village Bahadurgarh Jandian in Bathinda also joined the farmers' movement.
At that time, in November 2020, Kangana Ranaut had tweeted and described old Mahinder Kaur as a woman who jumped into the farmers' movement for Rs 100. Kangana had also shared a photo of this old woman. Kangana's harsh words had mentally broken Mahinder Kaur.
According to details, Mahinder Kaur had filed a criminal complaint against Kangana Ranaut under sections 499 and 500 IPC for this defamation on 5 January 2021. Kangana Ranaut had first approached the High Court and then the Supreme Court to quash this complaint and stop the remaining activities including summons.
When Kangana made comments against Mahinder Kaur, the matter also made headlines at the international level. Daljit Dosanjh had also slammed Kangana Ranaut on social media.
