Ludhiana, October 9, 2026:- The Directorate of Students’ Welfare of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, in collaboration with the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle (Veterinary University Unit) and the Can Fight Cancer (CFC) Society, Ludhiana, organised a one-day awareness programme and interactive discussion session on women’s health and cancer. The programme aimed to raise awareness about cancer prevention, early detection and palliative care. Around 150 female students, women faculty members and staff members participated in the event.
Dr Jatinder Pal Gill, Vice-Chancellor, and his wife, Mrs Pawan Jit Kaur Gill, attended the programme as chief guests. Dr Gill emphasised the importance of healthcare, cancer awareness and early detection of the disease. He appreciated the joint efforts of the organisers and medical experts in promoting women’s health and well-being.
During the technical sessions, Dr Kanupreeya Jain, a gynaecologist at Cloudnine Hospital, Ludhiana, delivered an informative lecture on “Common Cancers in Women—Prevention and Early Detection”. She highlighted the importance of awareness and timely medical assistance. Dr Kunal Jain, an oncologist at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, discussed palliative care and its significance in improving the quality of life of cancer patients. Society Secretary Jagjit Sood provided information about the organisation, its activities and the services it offers to support patients during the difficult stages of cancer.
Mrs Pawan Jit Kaur Gill shared her personal experience with cancer and explained the importance of family support in coping with its effects. She also emphasised the importance of awareness and collective efforts in promoting women’s health and well-being. She encouraged women to prioritise their health, seek medical advice in a timely manner and actively participate in awareness campaigns.
Dr Jaspal Singh Hundal, Director of Students’ Welfare, said that women’s health is a particularly important aspect of society, as the well-being of women contributes to the smooth functioning of families and social life. He said that the Veterinary University recognises this importance and therefore undertakes such initiatives.
The programme was organised through the joint efforts of Dr Vineet Inder Kaur, Dr Nidhi Sharma and Dr Sarabjit Kaur. The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening health awareness, social responsibility and the overall well-being of its students and staff.
