Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, 7 October:- Under the guidance of Higher Education and Languages Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains and the directions of Director, Department of Languages, Punjab, S. Jaswant Singh Zafar, the Office of the Assistant Director, Punjabi Cell, Chandigarh, organised written children's literature quiz competitions for students from different categories associated with the district on 7 October 2026 at Shaheed Major Harminder Pal Singh (Shaurya Chakra), Government College, Phase 6, Mohali. The competitions were organised under the leadership of Assistant Director Smt. Surinder Kaur, with the main objective of inculcating love for Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat among school students.

Under the supervision of Research Officer Smt. Jagreet Kaur Sandhu, Research Officer Smt. Jagdeep Jot welcomed the students, teachers, parents and dignitaries who arrived to participate in the competitions and provided brief information about the working of the department. As per the rules of the quiz competitions, the competitions were conducted in written form and one hour was allotted for them. The students were asked a total of 100 questions related to the Punjabi language, literature, religion, personalities, culture, history and geography, while the question paper carried a total of 400 marks. The students securing first, second and third positions in the quiz competition were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 1,000/-, Rs. 750/- and Rs. 500/- respectively, along with certificates and medals.

Research Officers Smt. Jagreet Kaur Sandhu and Smt. Jagdeep Jot appealed to the students to remain connected with their mother tongue Punjabi and keep their love for literature alive.

The school heads and teachers were specially thanked for preparing and sending students for these competitions, and they were encouraged to participate enthusiastically in these competitions in the future as well. A book exhibition was also organised by the office on the occasion so that the treasure of literature could reach everyone. Along with this, refreshments were also provided to the students participating in the competition.

Instructor Baldev Singh, S. Gurwinder Singh, Junior Assistant, Shri Gurcharan Singh, Sevadar, Pradeep Singh and all the stenography trainees made a special contribution to the success of the event. The Office of the Assistant Director (Punjabi Cell), Chandigarh, thanked the Principal and entire staff of Government College, Mohali, for their cooperation in conducting these competitions smoothly.
