Una, September 27:- The Prof. Simmi Agnihotri Jayanti celebration will be organized on September 29 at the campus of Prof. Simmi Agnihotri Government Degree College, Haroli. The event, organized by the Prof. Simmi Agnihotri Foundation, will be attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri as the chief guest. The programme will begin at 10 a.m. The special attraction of the celebration will be a performance by renowned Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan.
The event will commemorate Prof. Simmi Agnihotri’s contributions to education, research and social concerns. On the occasion, cultural performances will be presented by college students as well as various theatre groups.
Born in Mandi on September 29, 1968, Prof. Simmi Agnihotri made notable contributions in the fields of education and research. Wife of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Prof. Simmi Agnihotri served as a senior professor in the Department of Public Administration at Himachal Pradesh University, where she made significant contributions to teaching, research and guiding students.
Her research work on subjects such as tribal empowerment, gender equality, local governance, human resource development and rural employment was known for its socially relevant perspective.
Prof. Agnihotri guided numerous students during her academic career and played an active role in research and academic activities at the national and international levels. Along with education, she also had a deep interest in art, culture, music and literature.
Prof. Simmi Agnihotri passed away on February 9, 2024. Her life remained dedicated to education, research, guiding students and a sensitive approach towards society. The college established in her name is working towards carrying forward her educational ideas and values. The college was renamed Prof. Simmi Agnihotri Government Degree College, Haroli, through a government notification dated March 12, 2024.
