Santokhgarh/Una, 1 October (Rajveer Chopra):- Under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign being conducted by the Government of India from September 17 to October 2, Nagar Parishad Santokhgarh organised a special cleanliness and awareness programme at the Nagar Parishad office premises on Thursday. Representatives, officers and employees of the Nagar Parishad, along with NSS volunteers of Bal Vidyalaya Santokhgarh, sanitation workers and local residents, participated enthusiastically in the programme.

During the programme, all those present took a pledge to fulfil their responsibility towards cleanliness and keep the environment around them clean. On the occasion, representatives and officers of the Nagar Parishad highlighted the objective of the ‘Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata’ campaign and said that cleanliness is not an activity limited to a single day or campaign, but it is necessary to make it a part of daily life.

The speakers said that building a clean and beautiful town is not the responsibility of the Nagar Parishad or sanitation workers alone, but every citizen has an important role in it. They urged the residents to cooperate in keeping not only their homes but also public places, streets, markets and surrounding areas clean and to dispose of garbage only at designated places.

Thereafter, an awareness rally was taken out from the Nagar Parishad office with the objective of creating awareness about cleanliness. NSS volunteers, Nagar Parishad representatives, sanitation workers, officers and employees, and local residents participated in the rally. The participants raised cleanliness-related slogans and made people aware of cleanliness.

During the rally, Nagar Parishad representatives and other participants were themselves seen collecting garbage from various places. During this, the cleanliness arrangements at public places were also reviewed, and wherever necessary, Nagar Parishad sanitation workers were directed to improve the cleanliness arrangements.

During the programme, NSS volunteers and sanitation workers who played an important role in the cleanliness campaign were honoured and presented with gifts. Their work in the field of cleanliness was appreciated and they were urged to continue their active participation in the same manner in the future.

Nagar Parishad President Anjana Chhabba said that the Nagar Parishad is continuously working to make Santokhgarh a clean, beautiful and better town. She said that the cooperation of residents is most important in improving the town’s cleanliness system. She appealed to all citizens to make cleanliness a habit and a responsibility.

Nagar Parishad Vice President Sandeep Pahesh, along with other councillors and officers, also emphasised the need for collective efforts to make the cleanliness campaign successful. At the end of the programme, gratitude was expressed to all the dignitaries, residents, NSS volunteers, sanitation workers and Nagar Parishad employees present. Thereafter, refreshments were also distributed among those present.

On the occasion, Nagar Parishad President Anjana Chhabba, Vice President Sandeep Pahesh, Councillors Anju Wala, Charanjit Kaur, Iqbal Singh, Kusum Lata, Jyoti Saini, Sameer Gautam, Nagar Parishad J.E. Arsh Ratan, staff member Jaswinder Singh, Sanitary Supervisor Shamli, Mehak, Ruchi, along with other Nagar Parishad employees, NSS volunteers, sanitation workers and a large number of residents were present.
