Chandigarh, October 4 (Harminder Singh Nagpal):- The continuous incidents of murders, firing, extortion calls and other criminal activities in Punjab have raised serious questions over the law-and-order situation in the state. Senior leader of the Akali Dal (Waris Punjab) and MLA from Dakha constituency Manpreet Singh Iyaali directly targeted the Punjab Government over these incidents, saying that law and order in Punjab has collapsed and the government is busy hiding its failures through government advertising.
MLA Iyaali said that the confidence of criminals has increased to such an extent in the state that people have started fearing for their safety even in broad daylight. He said that the recent murder allegedly carried out by motorcycle-borne assailants in Amritsar, the shooting and killing of a former sarpanch near a canal in Ludhiana, and the killing of a youth in village Khanjarwal of Dakha constituency following a personal rivalry have brought the reality of the state’s law-and-order situation to the fore.
Iyaali said that the common citizen of Punjab is feeling unsafe, while instead of protecting the lives and property of the people, the government is engaged in hiding its political failures and loopholes. He said that there is a wide gap between the claims being made by the government regarding law and order and the ground reality.
He demanded that the Punjab Police conduct an impartial investigation into these incidents, free from any political pressure, and that the actual accused in the murders and shooting incidents be arrested immediately. Iyaali said that the government needs to take strict and concrete steps to curb the rising crime in the state; otherwise, people’s trust in the government and administration will weaken further.
