Sangrur, September 29:- After the block-level games under Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan (Season-04)-2026, the Department of Sports, Punjab, is now conducting a total of 39 different sports under the district-level games. The district-level competitions in football, chess, archery and lawn tennis (boys/girls) commenced today.
On this special occasion, Mr. Gurmel Singh Gharachon, Chairman, District Planning Board, inaugurated the chess competition, which is being held at Aggarwal Dharamshala, Sunami Gate, near Vadda Chowk, Sangrur. The archery competition is being organised at GCM Convent School, Dirba, while the football competition is being held at Akal College of Physical Education, Sri Mastuana Sahib.
The chief guest extended his best wishes to the players and encouraged them to remain committed to the spirit of sportsmanship.
On the occasion, officials of the Department of Sports said that through Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, the Punjab Government is providing a platform to players from villages and cities to showcase their talent. The objective of these games is not only to connect the youth with sports but also to develop discipline, team spirit and a competitive spirit among them.
District Sports Officer Navdeep Singh said that the Department of Sports is continuously making efforts to provide every possible facility and a good sporting environment to the players.
Football: During the semi-final matches in the Under-14 (girls) category, the Sunam-A team defeated the Sunam-B team by 3 points to reach the final. In the Under-17 (girls) quarter-final match, the Sunam-A team defeated the Andana team and reached the final competition.
