Chandigarh, October 11:- Haryana Irrigation and Women and Child Development Minister Shruti Choudhry inaugurated 10 important schemes of the Irrigation Department and laid the foundation stone for one project during a programme held at the Irrigation Rest House in Jhajjar on Sunday. The total cost of these 11 development schemes is approximately Rs. 37.50 crore. These schemes will strengthen the water drainage system in various villages across the district and help drain waterlogged fields and floodwater.

Saplings were also planted at the programme venue. Earlier, upon her arrival, SDM Ravi Meena and Irrigation Department Superintending Engineer Satish Kumar welcomed the Irrigation Minister and briefed her on irrigation-related schemes and projects underway across the district.

Irrigation Minister Shruti Choudhry said that the state government was committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests and expanding basic infrastructure in the agricultural sector. Finding a permanent solution to waterlogging was among the government’s priorities. She said continuous efforts were being made through irrigation and drainage projects to provide relief to farmers and protect agricultural land from waterlogging.

The Cabinet Minister inaugurated a pump house with a capacity of 50 cusecs, including a tail regulator on the Bisahan Link Drain, constructed at a cost of Rs. 428.83 lakh; the construction of the Kasni Link Drain, costing Rs. 839.25 lakh; and a tubewell-related scheme costing Rs. 687.99 lakh to lower the groundwater level in Neel a Heri village. In addition, two underground HDPE pipeline link-drain schemes in Akheri-Madanpur village, constructed at costs of Rs. 225.34 lakh and Rs. 215.24 lakh, were inaugurated. Pump sets with capacities of 20 cusecs and 10 cusecs, installed on the JLN Feeder at a cost of Rs. 97.41 lakh, were also commissioned.

She also inaugurated a floodwater drainage scheme in the Dubladhan (Ghikyan) area, costing Rs. 362.32 lakh; construction of the Dubladhan (Bidhyan) Link Drain, costing Rs. 86.39 lakh; laying of a pipeline from the Kasni Minor to Drain No. 8, costing Rs. 318.49 lakh; and RCC pipeline schemes costing Rs. 226.07 lakh, laid from the fields of Mundahera village to the JLN Escape Channel.

Cabinet Minister Shruti Choudhry laid the foundation stone for a project costing Rs. 263.17 lakh to lay a 1,000-millimetre-diameter RCC pipeline up to Drain No. 8 for draining floodwater from Dhakla, Chandol and Sukhpura villages. The project will facilitate the drainage of rainwater in the concerned villages and provide farmers with relief from waterlogging.

These development schemes will benefit various villages, including Ritholi, Kabulpur, Gochhi, Bisahan, Beri, Bakra, Neel a Heri, Akheri-Madanpur, Achhej, Safipur, Malikpur, Godhari, Siwana Majra, Dubladhan, Bithla, Ladayan, Birhar, Mundahera and Chharwana. Improved drainage arrangements will reduce water accumulation in fields and encourage agricultural activities.
