Moonak/Sangrur, October 4:- Dr. Ravjot Grewal, IPS, SSP Sangrur, said that under the “War Against Drugs” and “Village Watchmen” campaigns being conducted by the district police, Moonak Sub-Division Police carried out special operations from September 28, 2026, to October 4, 2026.
He said that during the operation, 3 cases were registered under the NDPS Act and 3 accused were arrested, from whom 20 intoxicating tablets, 8 kg of poppy husk and 10 grams of heroin were recovered. In addition, 2 cases were registered under Section 27 of the NDPS Act and 2 persons were admitted to a drug de-addiction centre for treatment.
He said that keeping security and traffic arrangements in mind, 72 challans were issued to vehicle drivers violating traffic rules. To maintain law and order in the area, suspected persons were checked and legal action was taken against 52 persons under Section 172 BNSSS.
The District Police Chief, Sangrur, appealed to the general public to cooperate with the police in the anti-drug campaign. He said that to protect the youth from the harmful effects of drugs, meetings are being held with village panchayats, sports clubs and prominent persons to create awareness among the public so that the menace of drugs can be eradicated from its roots. He made it clear that the police’s war against those involved in the drug trade and anti-social elements will continue unabated.
