Hoshiarpur, September 29:- In view of the upcoming festivals, particularly Diwali, the district administration held necessary discussions with firecracker dealers regarding the sale of firecrackers and directed them not to sell any type of firecrackers that could cause noise pollution or any untoward incident, so that all festivals could be celebrated peacefully and safely.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Kumud Bambah and Assistant Commissioner Sumit Mudh, while holding a meeting with firecracker dealers and officials of the concerned departments, said that keeping public interest in mind, no type of firecrackers should be sold in congested areas or markets and only designated places for selling firecrackers should be given priority. They said that firecrackers should not be sold in narrow lanes, common passages, public places, roads leading to hospitals, etc., and firecrackers should not be sold outside the designated places without obtaining a temporary licence.
They said that in the sub-divisions of Hoshiarpur, Garhshankar, Mukerian, Dasuya and Tanda, open spaces would be designated by the SDMs for the sale of firecrackers, where proper safety arrangements would be made and emergency healthcare facilities would also be arranged by the Health Department. They said that all Executive Officers in the district would ensure that firecrackers are not sold in narrow lanes or markets. Besides, the sale of firecrackers would not be permitted around commercial and sensitive locations such as hospitals, shopping complexes, crowded places, etc.
During a detailed discussion with firecracker dealers regarding the sale, the Additional Deputy Commissioner said that firecrackers should also not be sold near electricity supply wires or transformers. He said that the district administration has prepared a framework for the process of obtaining temporary licences for the sale of firecrackers. Under this process, applications for temporary licences can be submitted through Sewa Kendras from October 7, 2026, to 5 p.m. on October 16, 2026.
He said that the applications would be scrutinised by 3 p.m. on October 21 and the draw for the applications would be held on October 27 at 11:30 a.m. in the meeting room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The temporary licence for selling firecrackers would be valid from October 30, 2026, to November 8, 2026, with permitted sale hours from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. every day.
The firecracker dealers assured the district administration that all rules would be fully complied with in view of the festivals.
