Una, September 28:- Deputy Commissioner Una Jatin Lal, while presiding over the meeting of the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee on Monday, reviewed cases registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He directed the officers to ensure effective implementation of the Act and provide timely justice, relief and legal protection to the victims.
The Deputy Commissioner said that prevention of caste discrimination and protection of the rights of victims are priorities of the administration. He directed the concerned officers to expedite the investigation of registered cases and ensure regular monitoring of cases pending in courts, so that there is no unnecessary delay in their disposal.
It was informed in the meeting that as of August 31, 2026, a total of 76 cases have been registered in Una district under the Act. Of these, 11 cases are at the stage of police investigation, while 60 cases are pending in courts. In two cases, the sections of the Act have been dismissed, while three cases have been decided.
The Deputy Commissioner said that under the Act, eligible victims are entitled to relief ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 8.25 lakh as per the prescribed provisions. The amount is provided in stages according to the prescribed procedure. He directed the officers to regularly review the cases to ensure timely disbursement of relief to eligible victims.
He said that strict compliance with the provisions of the Act should be ensured and all concerned departments should work in coordination with each other to provide necessary assistance to the victims.
District Welfare Officer Una Awas Pandit, Tehsil Welfare Officer Jatinder Kumar, DSP Una Hemraj and officers from various departments were present in the meeting.
