Una, September 28:- All concerned departments should ensure timely action in coordination with each other to make the campaign against drugs being conducted in the district more effective and comprehensive, as well as to strengthen the road safety system. Drug eradication and road safety are important issues related to public interest, for the effective implementation of which active participation of the administration, police, various departments and the general public is essential. Additional Deputy Commissioner Una Ishant Jaswal said this while presiding over the meeting of the district-level committee constituted under N-CORD (National Narcotics Coordination Portal) and the District Road Safety Committee at the DRDA conference hall, Una, today.
Increase Awareness About the Harmful Effects of Drugs in Schools
In the meeting of the N-CORD committee, the Additional Deputy Commissioner directed that awareness activities regarding the harmful effects of drugs at the school level should be made more effective. He told the officers of the Education and Health departments that continuous efforts should be made to make children and youth aware of the harmful effects of drugs and also connect them with sports, education, creative activities and other positive means.
He said that children and youth who may be at risk of being attracted towards drugs should be identified in time and proper counselling and guidance should be ensured so that they can be provided a positive direction. He said that by connecting the energy of youth with creative and positive activities, a strong social environment can be created against drugs.
Directions for Regular Monitoring of Medical Stores
The ADC directed the Drug Inspector, police and concerned departments to conduct regular and surprise inspections of medical stores and chemist shops. He said that continuous monitoring of the sale of medicines, available stock and related records should be ensured. In case of any irregularity, action should be taken as per rules, so that illegal sale of prohibited and potentially misused medicines can be effectively curbed.
Prioritize Road Safety Around Schools, Colleges and Hospitals
In the meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, the ADC directed that road safety measures around schools, colleges and hospitals located along major roads should be strengthened on priority. He said that sensitive locations should be identified and necessary signboards, traffic management and other required safety measures should be ensured there, so that students, patients, pedestrians and vehicle drivers can have safe and convenient movement.
He directed the Police Department to increase regular patrolling around educational institutions, so that effective monitoring can be maintained over vehicles unnecessarily parked or repeatedly moving around outside the institutions.
Directions for Effective Monitoring in No-Parking and No-Vending Zones
The Additional Deputy Commissioner directed that the identified no-parking and no-vending zones in the major markets of the district be implemented effectively. He asked the SDMs, police, National Highway and urban local body officials to ensure regular monitoring in their respective areas, so that the traffic system remains smooth and the general public gets better and uninterrupted movement.
The ADC directed the Regional Transport Officer, police and Public Works Department to prepare detailed analytical data on road accidents occurring in the district and present it in the next meeting. This will include details of accident locations, number of accidents, possible causes and other related aspects. He said that scientific and factual analysis of the causes of accidents would help in identifying sensitive locations and effectively implementing necessary road safety measures there.
Rs 25,000 Incentive for Those Helping During the Golden Hour
Giving information about the Good Samaritan Scheme, the ADC said that a person who helps save the life of an injured person in a road accident by taking them to a hospital within the Golden Hour is provided an incentive amount of Rs 25,000 and a certificate of appreciation under the scheme. He called upon people to show human sensitivity at the time of road accidents and come forward to help those in need.
Work Together for a Drug-Free and Safe Una
The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that continuous efforts are being made by the district administration with the cooperation of all concerned departments, social organizations, youth and the general public to achieve the goal of a drug-free and safe Una. He called upon all departments to effectively discharge their responsibilities, further strengthen mutual coordination and accelerate these important campaigns related to public interest.
