Prayagraj/Uttar Pradesh:- Cash worth ₹5 crore has been recovered from inside a blue drum in Prayagraj. Bundles of ₹500 notes, wrapped in cloth, had been buried underground. The incident took place at the house of Rakesh Yadav in Baraipur village, located 32 kilometres from Prayagraj. Police recovered the cash on Wednesday night.
Around 5–6 days ago, Rakesh had a dispute with some of his neighbours, following which an FIR was registered against him. When police reached the spot, an argument broke out between Rakesh and a sub-inspector. Subsequently, during the police investigation, it came to light that crores of rupees had been hidden inside the house.
Rakesh Yadav, also known as 'Mahakal', has his ancestral home in Baraipur village, which falls under the Nawabganj area. Police had received information that stolen money was buried on Rakesh's property. The information reached Police Commissioner Piyush Mordia. Following this, a police team, including DCP (Ganganagar) Sonam Kumar and ADCP Pushkar Verma, reached the spot at 6:00 pm on Wednesday. Before launching the search operation, police had cut off the electricity supply to the entire village. ACP (Soraon) Shyamjit Pramila Singh was also present during the operation.
