Mandi- At least nine people were buried under heavy debris and mud in a landslide in the inner Akhara Bazaar of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh this morning. Officials confirmed that the landslide caused by incessant rains for the past several days has caused panic and destruction in the area.
According to the Kullu Superintendent of Police (SP), one body has been recovered from the spot, while three seriously injured victims have been rushed to the Kullu Regional Hospital for immediate medical treatment.
Rescue teams, including personnel from the District Disaster Management Authority, local police and district administration, are continuing their work to find the five people trapped under the debris.
The landslide occurred around two residential houses in the crowded inner Akhara Bazaar area.
Emergency teams have been working tirelessly since the incident but the ongoing bad weather is repeatedly hampering their efforts. Earlier on Wednesday, another landslide incident took place in the same area, in which two people were buried under the debris. So far, they have not been located despite continuous search efforts.
Similar incidents have been reported in several areas across the state, resulting in extensive damage to both public infrastructure and private properties. Authorities have issued warnings to residents of vulnerable areas and urged people to remain vigilant and avoid travelling to high-risk areas.
