
Chief Secretary Punjab visits flood affected areas of Pong Dam and Mukerian.
Hoshiarpur- On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Secretary Punjab K.A.P. Sinha today visited the flood affected areas of Pong Dam and Mukerian. On this occasion, Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department Krishan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik were also present with him.
Hoshiarpur- On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Secretary Punjab K.A.P. Sinha today visited the flood affected areas of Pong Dam and Mukerian. On this occasion, Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department Krishan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik were also present with him.
The Chief Secretary first inspected the Pong Dam and obtained detailed information from the officials present there about the current water level of the dam and the water being released. He gave clear instructions that keeping in mind the flow of water coming into the dam, the discharge should be done on the basis of technical parameters, so that the people living in the lower areas do not have to face any kind of problem. He also directed the officials to remain constantly alert and monitor the situation 24 hours a day.
After this, Chief Secretary Mr. Sinha reviewed the Dhussi Dam built between the flood-affected villages of Haled and Motla of Mukerian sub-division. He said that the Water Resources Department is continuously working to strengthen the Dhussi Dams. The Chief Secretary assured the people of the affected areas that the Punjab Government is with them and all possible assistance will be provided to them.
He asked the Deputy Commissioner about the rescue and relief work being done by the district administration on the spot. The Deputy Commissioner said that extensive arrangements have been made by the administration to ensure all possible assistance to the affected people. He said that the administration is continuously providing relief material, food, medical services and other essential facilities to the affected families with the help of social organizations and volunteers under the leadership of the Red Cross.
The Deputy Commissioner said that teams from the Revenue, Health, Animal Husbandry, Water Resources and other related departments are on duty 24 hours in the flood-affected areas and are engaged in relief work with full readiness. He said that the priority of the district administration is to ensure that no affected person suffers from lack of food, medicine or shelter.
On this occasion, Chief Engineer Beas Rakesh Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nicas Kumar, SP Dr. Mukesh, SDM Mukerian Ankur Mahindru, Superintendent Engineer Manmeet Chaudhary, Additional SE APS Ubhi, Executive Engineer Gaurav Lamba, Harpreet Singh and other senior officers were also present.
