Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission visits Mohali to review child protection and welfare schemes.

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, August 22, 2025: Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission, in collaboration with the Punjab Government and under the leadership of Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister, Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, Punjab, visited Mohali to review child protection and welfare schemes. The visit was led by Mrs. Gunjit Ruchi Bawa, Vice-Chairperson, Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission.

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, August 22, 2025: Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission, in collaboration with the Punjab Government and under the leadership of Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister, Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, Punjab, visited Mohali to review child protection and welfare schemes. The visit was led by Mrs. Gunjit Ruchi Bawa, Vice-Chairperson, Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission.
During the visit, Mrs. Bawa held important meetings with senior officers of the district administration and police to review the measures being taken to protect child rights. She interacted with Mrs. Sonam Chaudhary, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Mohali; Harmandeep Singh Hans, SSP, Mohali; and Mrs. Deepika Singh Sekhon, SP (PBI), Mohali. The discussions focused on strengthening police efforts for child protection, ensuring safety systems and assessing the challenges faced by vulnerable children.
Besides the review meeting, Mrs. Gunjit Ruchi Bawa visited the Gur Asra Trust, a child care institution located in Mohali, where she was welcomed by Mrs. Kulvir Kaur, President, Gur Asra Trust and Mr. Satvir Singh, Founder.
During the visit, detailed discussions were held on key issues, which included quota system for children for higher education, establishment of new shelter homes for children rescued during raids and children under the POCSO Act and recruitment of qualified psychiatrists for collective development and rehabilitation of children. Mrs. Bawa also appreciated the work done by Dr. Bhavneet Bharti, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences, Mohali for the welfare of children.
Mrs. Bawa was accompanied by Nikhil Arora, District Programme Officer, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar; Navpreet Kaur, District Child Protection Officer, Mohali; Mrs. Manpreet Kaur, Protection Officer (IC); and Mrs. Gurvinder Kaur, ORW Unit during the visit.
Mrs. Bawa stressed that the Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, in collaboration with the Punjab Government, will continue to review and monitor child welfare schemes across Punjab. She reiterated the government’s commitment to provide a safe, nurturing and empowering environment for every child.
Mrs. Bawa also appreciated the constructive role of the district administration and police officers and stressed the importance of cooperation from government agencies, institutions and the society.
She also assured that the Commission will work towards continuous review and strengthening of monitoring mechanisms, so that the laws and programmes related to child protection and welfare are effectively implemented. He said that these visits are part of the ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between policy and ground reality, making child protection a strong and effective undertaking in Punjab.
