Hoshiarpur- Former Union Minister of State and former Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes (Government of India) Shri Vijay Sampla today expressed his strong displeasure over the law and order situation of Punjab Government during a special press conference in Jalandhar.
During the press conference, Sampla made serious allegations against Punjab Government for arresting BJP leaders during Seva Camps in the name of political vendetta. He termed it as condemnable, undemocratic and a violation of constitutional principles.
He said, "Seva camps are conducted for public welfare and to convey the policies of the Central Government to the common people — giving the form of unrest to these activities and arresting BJP workers is clearly authoritarian. This government is suppressing the voice of the opposition to divert attention from the real issues.*"
Shri Sampla said that BJP workers are doing social service with a selfless spirit and the people of Punjab will never tolerate these methods of intimidating them. He warned that if this oppressive attitude continues, the BJP will start a movement at the state level.
He also said that the matter will be taken up with the Central Government and the President and said that a democratic and legal battle will be fought at all levels.
The press conference was held in the presence of many BJP workers, party office bearers and media representatives.
