Una, October 1 – On the occasion of International Senior Citizens Day, an honor ceremony was organized at the District Welfare Building, Una, courtesy of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department. On this occasion, schemes related to the respect and welfare of senior citizens were discussed. The ceremony was presided over by Assistant Commissioner, Una, Varinder Sharma.

On this occasion, schemes related to the respect and welfare of senior citizens were discussed. The ceremony was presided over by Assistant Commissioner, Una, Varinder Sharma.
Addressing the program, Assistant Commissioner, Varinder Sharma, said that senior citizens are an invaluable asset to society. Their life experiences, struggles, and guidance guide future generations. He appealed to all citizens to maintain respect, cooperation, and sensitivity towards the elderly in their lives.
During the program, District Welfare Officer, Una, Awas Pandit, also provided information about various government schemes for the welfare of senior citizens. He explained that the objective was to ensure that senior citizens remain actively involved in mainstream society and receive all the benefits.
During the program, senior citizens raised their concerns with the Assistant Commissioner regarding priority medical facilities and railway bookings. The Assistant Commissioner stated that all these matters would be prioritized and placed before the Deputy Commissioner so that the relevant departments could address them promptly.
Life Experiences Shared
During the ceremony, senior citizens shared their experiences, ups and downs, struggles, and experiences. They also offered inspirational messages to the youth through ghazals, jokes, and poems.
These Senior Citizens Honored
On the occasion of International Senior Citizens Day, senior citizens from Una district were honored with shawls and caps. These included 95-year-old Kishan Chand, 87-year-old Baktawar Singh, 85-year-old Shiv Kishore Vasudev, 83-year-old Tilak Raj, 80-year-old Subhash Chand, 78-year-old Mast Ram, and Daulat Ram.
