Mohali, February 5: Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain conducted a surprise inspection of the Government De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre located in Sector 66 this morning and took stock of the facilities being provided to the patients there. She inspected various wards of the centre and interacted with the patients admitted in the centre.
The Civil Surgeon directed the health officials to increase the physical activities of drug addicts as much as possible so that their bad habit of drug addiction ends forever. She asked the doctors and staff to treat the patients with love and compassion and if ever a patient reacts sharply to something, then treat him with love and gentleness.
She checked the staff attendance register and instructed the staff to work with full dedication and devotion. Dr. Jain said that the government is providing a good environment to the patients, where they are being given free accommodation, food and treatment. Dr. Jain said that the purpose of providing facilities like open gym, television, music system and sports activities to the patients is to provide them a homely atmosphere in the center so that their mind stays away from the bad habit of addiction and they always remain active.
He said that addiction is not a physical problem but a mental problem whose treatment is completely possible. The person who wants to quit addiction just needs to make up his mind, the rest is the responsibility of the health department. He appealed to the people that if there is a drug patient in their home, relatives or neighborhood, then motivate him to stay away from this bad habit and bring him to the center or any government health facility. For information and consultation, medical helpline 104 can also be contacted.
