Patiala, December 28 - Stressing on the need to impartially and correctly identify history, Punjab Higher Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has said that the responsibility of understanding history without any bias and pressure lies on the shoulders of historians. Addressing the delegates from the country and abroad on the occasion of the inaugural ceremony of the 83rd session of the 'Indian History Congress' that began at Punjabi University today; the Education Minister expressed his views on the great contribution made by the Sikh community and Punjabis in the history of the world. He said that Punjab is a holy land and it has a very proud history. He said that Punjab has always been a state that fought against inequality and injustice.
He presented various examples about the journey from the efficient administration of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's reign to the great contribution of Punjabis in the freedom struggle and said that we are extremely proud of our history. On this occasion, MLA from Jalalabad constituency Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, who arrived as a special guest, said that Punjab has lost a lot in history. Which needs special attention.
MLA Gurlal Ghanaur said that Punjab has not only contributed to the freedom struggle but also has made a big contribution in the struggles fought to maintain this freedom. He said that it is very important to preserve history so that future generations can take guidance from it. Earlier, Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Narinder Kaur Multani, in her welcome remarks, talked about the long history of the Indian History Congress and appreciated the continuity of this Congress.
He said that the Indian History Congress is a prestigious platform to understand history objectively. He said that it is a matter of pride for Punjabi University that it is organizing the session of Indian History Congress for the fourth time.
During the inaugural ceremony, various awards and prizes were given to 12 young researchers who had presented their research activities in the last session organized at Kakatiya University, Warangal in 2023. The first day of the ‘Indian History Congress’ was also attended by MLA from Amargarh constituency Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra.
