New Delhi: The Centre on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that the Chhattisgarh police has filed a closure report in a case related to yoga guru Ramdev's alleged comments against the use of allopathic medicines during the Covid pandemic. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta brought this to the notice of Justices MM Sundaresh and Satish Chandra Sharma.
Mehta said the complaints against Ramdev appear to be "sponsored" by some interested groups. Senior advocate Siddharth Dave, representing Ramdev, said Chhattisgarh has filed its response as per the previous directions but Bihar is yet to do so.
The bench then adjourned the hearing of the matter till December. Earlier, the complainants were asked to make a plea in their plea so that the criminal proceedings can be stayed.
The Patna and Raipur units of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) had filed complaints in 2021. They alleged that Ramdev's comments could have a negative impact on the Covid control regime and prevent people from getting proper treatment.
Ramdev had made the Centre, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and the IMA parties.
Dave had earlier said that his client had made a statement in 2021 that he did not believe in allopathic medicines, which some doctors objected to and several cases were registered against him. As an interim relief, Ramdev had sought stay of the investigation into the criminal complaints.
