Hoshiarpur- Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain stated that due to recent floods, agricultural lands of many farmers in the district have accumulated silt, sand, and other riverine materials, which could affect the sowing of their next crop.
To address this, the Punjab Government has announced a special time-bound scheme named ‘Whose Field, Their Sand’ in the interest of farmers, under which farmers are permitted to remove sand, silt, or other riverine materials from their fields.
This facility will be available on a one-time basis until December 31, 2025, and farmers will not need to obtain any kind of permit or departmental No Objection Certificate (NOC) for this purpose. She added that this arrangement has been implemented under Rule 90 of the Punjab Minor Mineral Rules, 2013.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned authorities to widely disseminate information about this scheme to all farmers and landowners. She clarified that the activity of removing sand or silt from fields will not be considered ‘mining.’
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain stated that this step will help farmers prepare their land for the next sowing and will prove beneficial in supporting their financial condition. She instructed the authorities to work with transparency, promptness, and responsibility in this regard.
