Chandigarh, July 3- BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has come down heavily on the Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab and said that an undeclared emergency is being imposed in Punjab to suppress the voice of the opposition.
Reacting strongly to the detention of former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal and other senior Akali leaders in Mohali today, Chugh said that at the behest of Arvind Kejriwal, repressive laws are being used in Punjab and the opposition is being deprived of democratic rights like dharnas and peaceful protests.
Chugh said that now peaceful protests are not being allowed in the state, which shows how repressive the Punjab government inspired by Kejriwal has become. He said that AAP leaders had earlier openly threatened the opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and now they have started detaining even the leaders who were protesting peacefully in a democratic manner, which is a dangerous sign for democracy.
Chugh also said that earlier also AAP leaders had given threats like ‘we will take care of opposition leaders especially Bikram Majithia’ in the Vidhan Sabha, which shows the undemocratic and authoritarian mentality prevalent in the Aam Aadmi Party.
Chugh said that Arvind Kejriwal has now become a replica of dictator Indira Gandhi who has turned Punjab into a prison, where the democratic rights of the citizens have been taken away.
He said that instead of taking action against the mafia active in the state, the Bhagwant Mann government is targeting the opposition to divert the attention of the public from its failure on every front.
