KVK celebrated Farm Day by imparting information about stubble management techniques

Patiala, April 19 - The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Punjab Agricultural University, Patiala, celebrated a field day on stubble management techniques. On this occasion, information about wheat sown with surface seeding technique was shared and a plot sown with this technique was also demonstrated.

Patiala, April 19 - The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Punjab Agricultural University, Patiala, celebrated a field day on stubble management techniques. On this occasion, information about wheat sown with surface seeding technique was shared and a plot sown with this technique was also demonstrated.
Around 52 farmers of Patiala district participated in this farm day. On this occasion, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, Assistant Professor (Crop Science) made the farmers aware about the benefits of maintaining paddy stubble in the field and sowing wheat with surface seeder technology. He also explained to the farmers in detail about the fertility elements available to the plants in the soil by plowing the stubble in the ground without setting it on fire.
    Dr. Hardeep Singh Sabikhi, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) informed the farmers that the problem of weeds in wheat sown with surface seeder is very less and good crop yield can be obtained without the use of herbicides. He informed the farmers about the importance of seed modification and also appealed that every crop should be sown only after seed modification as per the recommendation of the University of Agriculture. During the visit to the demonstration plot of wheat sown with surface seeding, the questions asked by the farmers about this technique were also answered. The visiting farmers praised the wheat sown in this demonstration plot and expressed their intention to adopt this method next year. S. Narinder Singh Dittupur also gave his views on the techniques of straw conservation and appreciated the efforts of KVK experts.
