District Red Cross's 'Wings' project receives state-level honor

Hoshiarpur - The special project 'Wings' run by District Red Cross Society Hoshiarpur was honored with a state-level award by Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur (Social Security, Women and Child Welfare Department) on the occasion of International Day of Disabled Persons. This award is a testament to the unique success of this project. Under this project, 12 special children have set up canteens at 4 different places.

This award is a testament to the unique success of this project. Under this project, 12 special children have set up canteens at 4 different places.
In these canteens, high quality food items like tea, coffee, samosas, sandwiches, rajmah-rice, curry-rice etc. are provided to the students and staff at reasonable rates. This project has not only made these special children financially self-reliant but has also played an important role in improving their social life. Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that these canteens have been providing services to more than 8000 customers for the last 11 months.
After covering their costs, these canteens are also providing remuneration to special children. He said that due to this project, positive thinking and sensitivity has increased between special children and normal children. Seeing the success of this project, the Deputy Commissioner announced that such ‘Wings’ canteens will be opened in other schools and colleges as well. For this, he thanked Ludhiana Beverages (Coca-Cola), who have filled new light in the lives of special children by sponsoring this project.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the success of the ‘Wings’ project proves that with the right direction and support, even special children can become self-reliant and strong. Savitri Devi said that she had never thought of such an achievement in her life. Bhavak, Dilwar and Neeraj expressed their happiness and said that this is an important turning point in their lives. Red Cross Society Secretary Mangesh Sood said that this canteen is being run very efficiently by 9 mentally challenged, 2 deaf and dumb and 1 physically challenged children. He appealed to the general public to also cooperate in such social welfare works.
