Hoshiarpur - Under the guidelines of Election Commission of India and under the able leadership of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Hoshiarpur Komal Mittal, various awareness programs are being conducted in the district to make people aware about voting and casting their votes. Under this series, a special initiative was taken in village Rupowal Halka Urmur, under which 'Jago of Democracy' was taken out in the village.

There is a very big and old banyan tree around the village and the people of the village gather on the big platform built around it. Meanwhile, about 500 people of the village gathered. District Election Officer Komal Mittal and SDM Tanda Vyam Bhardwaj participated in this program as chief guests. The outline of this program was prepared by District Sweep Nodal Officer Preet Kohli, who was assisted by his Assistant Nodal Officer Akunr Sharma.
During this, under the leadership of Assistant Nodal Officer Urmur Dr. Kuldeep Singh Minhas, the students of Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Ambala Jatt presented the first Sweep Gidda in a unique way to make the voters aware about voting, all the speeches of which were related to voter awareness. After this, the Jago of Democracy was taken out to the beat of drums, which was led by the Deputy Commissioner.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Komal Mittal appreciated the school for this unique initiative and said that like a wedding, all the villagers are invited and then everyone comes together to celebrate in the village. Similarly, voting is also a great festival, in which we all come together to exercise our franchise. All the district residents were invited to exercise their franchise on the biggest festival of democracy. On this occasion, District Sweep Nodal Officer Preet Kohli and Assistant Nodal Officer Ankur Sharma also made the villagers aware about voting through their strategy.
On this occasion, Sweep Icon Dr. Kewal, Daksh Sohal Sweep Nodal Officer Urmur, Dr. Hardeep Singh Minhas Supervisor, BLO Jasvir Singh Bodal, Jagdeep Singh, Rajinder Singh, Hartej Kaur, Rajni Bala, Ranjit Kaur, Inderjit Singh and villagers were present.
