Nawanshahr:- District Magistrate Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa has issued orders using the powers obtained under Section 144 of Act 2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (1974). That no person/institution in the district shall construct any gate on Government/Panchayat land. If such a memorial gate is to be constructed, the approval should be taken from the office of the District Magistrate only after obtaining approval from the concerned department.
In the issued orders, the District Magistrate has said that it has come to his notice that people in the villages are erecting memorial gates in the memory of their close relatives at government/panchayat sites without taking any permission and without getting approval from any competent department. They make it at will. In this way, where government land is illegally occupied, there is always a danger of the gates constructed in this way falling down, with which there is also a fear of loss of life/property. Therefore, it is necessary to ban the construction of such gates in the district. These orders will remain in force till 11 May 2024.
