
District Red Cross Branch SAS Nagar organized a voluntary blood donation and organ donation awareness camp
SAS Nagar November 27, 2024: District Red Cross Branch, SAS Nagar in collaboration with Vishwas Foundation organized a voluntary blood donation and organ donation awareness camp at District Administrative Complex, SAS Nagar today. During the camp, 50 units of blood were collected and 16 people got organ donation registered.

Mrs. Ashika Jain, Deputy Commissioner-cum-President District Red Cross Branch, while participating in the occasion, said that blood donation is a great and noble donation, with which many precious lives can be saved. She said that people need to show enthusiasm for blood donation as well as registration for organ donation.
She said that while blood donation is useful in saving the lives of living persons, meeting the shortage of plasma, platelets. Whereas organ donation is helpful in keeping the needy alive in case of brain death. He said that today we have many examples that with the donation of an organ by one person, the lives of many people were saved and a new life was given to them.
On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged the blood donors to donate blood by arranging batches. 50 blood units were collected by the team of doctors of PGI Chandigarh and 16 people donated their bodies.
In this camp, Prem Kumar Mittal, District Education Officer (Elementary), donated blood for the 127th time and also registered for organ donation. He told the Deputy Commissioner on this occasion that he had donated blood for the first time at the age of 18 and today, reaching the age of 52, it has reached 127 times. The Deputy Commissioner specially honored the District Education Officer, calling him a source of inspiration for others as well.
Harbans Singh, Secretary of the District Red Cross Branch, also donated blood and organs.
On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner informed that there is a misconception among the people that donating blood causes weakness in the body, whereas donating blood does not cause any weakness, but every healthy person should donate blood once in 90 days. This helps the needy as well as keeps the body healthy. A noble deed like donating blood is of great service. It needs to be made a public movement because blood cannot be prepared from any medicine etc. but it can be donated by the person himself as per his wish.
During this camp, Harbans Singh Secretary Red Cross made people aware about the activities being run by him such as First Aid Training, Patient Care Attendant Service, Jan Aoshadi Store Scheme and Oxygen Concentrator Bank facility etc.
On this occasion, the Assistant Commissioner (G) of the district Dr. Ankita Kansal, the unpaid secretary of the district Red Cross branch, volunteers of Vishwas Foundation and a team of doctors from PGI were also present.
