Chandigarh October 25, 2024- Today on 25 October, 2024, a lecture was organized by the Hindi Department, Punjab University, Chandigarh on the topic “Literary Evaluation of Effective Hindi Cinema Songs”. In this program, Prof. Ishwar J Pawar (Chairman, Hindi Department, C.T. Bora College, Shirur, Maharashtra) presented a subject based lecture as the keynote speaker. At the beginning of the program, the Head of the Department, Prof. Ashok Kumar and Prof. Gurmeet Singh formally welcomed the guest by presenting him a gift. Prof.

Ishwar J Pawar said in his statement that many songs of cinema are modern versions of the poems of eminent Hindi poets. Today lyricists can make changes in their tunes but they have not been able to make songs by changing the words given by them in the poem. Because in the absence of the words chosen by our poets to communicate emotions, those emotions cannot be expressed. Along with this, he made the students aware of the role of songs in the freedom struggle, the history of Indian cinema, the origin of songs and the famous stories behind the creation of songs. He also said that the ignorance of cultural values by the lyricists of the present time is a matter of concern for Indian culture. He also expressed his views on how a normal song becomes an effective song due to the choice of words and the use of metaphors in old film songs.

He had a comparative discussion on the song-writing style of many poet-lyricists like Amir Khusro, Kavi Pradeep, Kavi Neeraj, Shailendra, Santosh Anand, Bharat Vyas, Anand Bakshi and the status of literary elements in it. After this, he answered the questions of the students according to the topic. In the end, the Head of the Department, Prof. Ashok Kumar thanked the keynote speaker of the program, Prof. Ishwar J. Pawar and said that his work on cinema and music is commendable. The present generation should have an understanding of good and bad songs. I believe that the lecture will prove useful for the students in developing this perspective. Faculty member Prof. Gurmeet Singh, students and researchers were present in the program.
