Una November 1 - Deputy Commissioner Raghav Sharma inspected the Bamboo Village project under construction in Ghandawal village of district Una on Wednesday. During this, Industry Department Manager Akhil Sharma, HPSIDC Assistant Engineer Pankaj Kumar, National Highway Authority Assistant Engineer Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Bamboo India Managing Director Yogesh Shinde along with Swan Women Federation Chief Advisor Rajesh Sharma were present.
The only project in the state being built under the National Bamboo Mission has provisions for processing bamboo to make many products which include daily needs products including bamboo toothbrushes, combs and furniture products. This unit is a unique initiative of the district administration involving agriculture and industry and will be operated by Swan Women Federation, an organization of Una district under the technical guidance of Bamboo India.
Deputy Commissioner Raghav Sharma directed the officials of the Industries Department to complete the building under construction of the Bamboo Project by 15th November. He said that the machinery for making tooth brushes and bamboo pellets will be installed in this building by 25th November and testing of the machines installed by Bamboo India will also be done in the first month of December.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the HPSIDC officials to provide smooth electricity and water supply to the unit. Apart from this, departmental officers were instructed to prepare DPR soon to prepare the land around the under-construction building up to road level.
During this, Swan Women Federation advisor Rajesh Sharma requested the Deputy Commissioner to allow the federation to build a temporary structure made of bamboo until a permanent building is constructed to showcase bamboo products. The Federation also informed that about 50 self-help groups of the organization have been formed in the nearby villages, out of which women from about 25 groups are ready to generate their livelihood by working in this unit.
The Deputy Commissioner said that technical staff will be required to operate the bamboo processing machines, which should be selected by the Federation soon so that the women of the self-help groups can be trained by the master trainers of Bamboo India. He said that Bamboo India has also assured to ensure procurement of bamboo products.
