Haryana Government directs officers to record reasons for rejection of armed license - Dr. Sumita Mishra.

Chandigarh, September 5 - The Haryana Government has issued strict instructions to ensure transparency in matters related to armed license. Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Dr. Sumita Mishra has directed all Police Commissioners and District Commissioners to record in writing the reasons for rejection of applications for grant, renewal or extension of armed license and inform the applicants.

Chandigarh, September 5 - The Haryana Government has issued strict instructions to ensure transparency in matters related to armed license. Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Dr. Sumita Mishra has directed all Police Commissioners and District Commissioners to record in writing the reasons for rejection of applications for grant, renewal or extension of armed license and inform the applicants.
Dr. Mishra stressed that under Section 14 of the Arms Act, 1959, the licensing officers will have to record the reasons for any rejection in writing and make it available to the applicant on demand, except where disclosure of such reasons is not in public interest.
He directed all licensing officers to strictly follow the provisions of the Armed Act, 1959 and the Arms Rules, 2016. Further, to ensure accountability in such cases, a report on rejection and disqualification should be sent to the government for review.
