Chandigarh, August 27 – A massive fire broke out suddenly on Tuesday afternoon in a garment showroom located in the market of Sector-20 C. The fire, which started around 2 PM, rapidly engulfed the three-story building. All floors, filled with garments, were completely reduced to ashes.
Upon receiving the information, several fire brigade vehicles rushed to the scene and, after hours of effort, managed to bring the fire under control. According to initial reports, there have been no casualties in the incident, but the financial loss is reported to be substantial.
Eyewitnesses stated that thick clouds of smoke covered the surrounding area, creating a chaotic atmosphere outside the shop. The fire was so intense that there was a risk of it spreading to nearby shops, but the prompt response of the fire brigade personnel kept the situation under control.
Administrative officials inspected the site. Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit may have caused the fire, although a forensic team has been called in for a detailed investigation.
Local traders described the incident as a major blow to the market. They noted that the showroom, where the fire broke out, had been operating both wholesale and retail businesses for a long time. It is feared that the fire has caused losses worth crores of rupees.
For now, the police have registered a case and are collecting details of the losses from the shop owners.
